Enhanced Labelling for Food Allergen and Gluten Sources
and Added Sulphites
The Canadian Food and Drug
Regulations have been amended regarding the labelling of
food allergens and gluten sources, as well as, added
sulphites. Link to below for more details on these final

Coming into force date: August 4, 2012.
Health Canada has recommended the
Food and Drug Regulations be amended to permit for the
addition of "vitamin D to bread, enriched bread, raisin
bread, whole wheat bread, brown bread and unstandardized
yeast-leavened bakery products at a level of up to 90 I.U.
(2.25 µg) per 100 g of bakery product, as consumed." Link

Health Canada has recommended the
Food and Drug Regulations be amended to permit for the
addition of a combination of the colours: allura red (500
ppm), brilliant blue FCF (450 ppm), sunset yellow FCF (250
ppm) and tartrazine (100 ppm), in lumpfish caviar. Link

Health Canada has recommended the
Food and Drug Regulations be amended to permit for the use
of protease (derived from Aspergillus melleus) "in the
product of hydrolyzed animal, milk and vegetable protein at
a level consistent with good manufacturing practice."

Health Canada (HC) has recommended
the Food and Drug Regulations be amended to permit for the
use of "potassium ferrocyanide, trihydrate as anticaking
agent in salt at a total amount not to exceed 13 ppm, used
singly or in combination with sodium ferrocyanide,
decahydrate". Additionally, HC recommended allowing for
"potassium ferrocyanide, trihydrate as an adjuvant in the
production of dendritic salt crystals, at a total amount not
to exceed 13 ppm, used singly or in combination with sodium
ferrocyanide, decahydrate". Link below for more details on

the Food and Drug Regulations be amended to permit for the
addition of the colour, allura red, at a maximum level of
use of 1 300 ppm, if used singly, in lumpfish caviar. Link

Food and Drug Regulations be amended to permit for the
addition of citric acid (pH adjusting agent) in canned cut
baby corn at good manufacturing practice levels. Link below

Health Canada has recommended the
Food and Drug Regulations be amended to permit for the
addition of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose to prevent
tartrates from precipitating during wine production, at a
